And I'm getting cynical about things getting better. This time last year, one of my daughter's friends shot his ex-girlfriend in the stomach. Just like that. On a beautiful day in early August. Most ordinary people won't carry a gun into a movie theatre (or anywhere else) just in case. Most people do not want to carry guns because they don't know how use them. How many are going to sign up for lessons in fear of being in a mass shooting? How many are mentally capable of pulling the trigger if faced with that sort of situation? Even if someone did have a gun in that theatre..the psycho had so much armor on who knows if he could've even been stopped? So the whole thing is the normal people can get guns, but obviously we're not carrying them around because we're not paranoid enough..yet. Now if I had to go into a bad neighborhood on a regular basis, then it would be something to think about. But in a your usual suburban mall/movie theatre etc, nobody is thinks "Better bring my gun"Cindyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07922596724107742478noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3651058317830668643.post-31009789928181912482012-07-26T18:32:07.219-04:002012-07-26T18:32:07.219-04:00I'm tired of gun violence. America has so much blood on its hands, and the problem is only going to escalate as a divide between liberals and conservatives grows.Michael Offutt, Phantom Readerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10557969104886174930noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3651058317830668643.post-90028087031581450802012-07-26T18:23:49.147-04:002012-07-26T18:23:49.147-04:00Forgot to mention that I've really missed Grum...Forgot to mention that I've really missed Grumpy Bulldog!stephen Hayeshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17659054447637207734noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3651058317830668643.post-11349882115833754712012-07-26T18:23:02.490-04:002012-07-26T18:23:02.490-04:00This country is never going to give up its handgun...This country is never going to give up its handguns so that's a lost cause. But assault weapons exist for only one purpose, to kill as many people as possible in the shortest amount of time. In spite of what the NRA would have us believe, the Constitution doesn't give us the right to these any more than I have the right to build a nuclear bomb in my backyard. This latest shooting really depressed me, not because of the tragic loss of life, but because I'm becoming cynical and no longer expect change any time soon.stephen Hayeshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17659054447637207734noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3651058317830668643.post-74935797268632525932012-07-26T15:53:11.871-04:002012-07-26T15:53:11.871-04:00We have a large population. I figure if they just went down and bought one and really have no idea how to use it, I'll have a better chance of getting away.

All humor aside, this is one of those controversies that I don't have my own good answer for. I think people should have the right to own a gun, but we need to be better about whom we let have guns.

I think I agree with you about the assault rifles, though. What are you going to use that for, making venison burger right on the deer?Andrew Leonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13964775673414653644noreply@blogger.com
