One problem with quite a few of McFarlane's figures (especially early on) is that they aren't really "action" figures because they don't DO anything. This is one of the problems with this early version of Red Wings Hall of Famer (and now General Manager) Steve Yzerman.
Yzerman has always been my favorite player on the Red Wings, so in the late 90s or so when McFarlane first released a figure, I wanted to get it. But the figure is pretty disappointing. First, McFarlane hadn't secured the NHL license yet so he's wearing an NHLPA symbol on the chest and the red is darker than the typical Red Wings red. The font on the back of the uniform is more like the ones they wear in the preseason, before the rosters are set.

Since this is a really old figure, the likeness in the face is not great. I always thought he looked more like former Tampa Bay All-Star Vincent Lecavalier than Yzerman. But what really sucks is he doesn't move--at all. He's stuck in this curled-up position, which can be a real problem with the little stand because if he swings the wrong way, he tips it over.
I'm sure they've since made a better version. This early one, like a lot of first drafts of novels, should have stayed in the drawer.
