I now suspect that you have multiple timelines in the story, and that the older one meets a tragic end and tries in vain to worn the younger one. Well, that's my version, now, anyway...
That's terrifying. You should have posted a pic of Butler Blue so that it wouldn't be so scary and we could say, "cute doggie".
