Here's the Price is Right losing music, because this week is another disappointing one:
“Of course I’m right.” Becky hefted both of them up.
You can't win them all, right?
Tomorrow being the fifth Wednesday of the month means a random entry...not even I know what it is yet! (Actually I've known for weeks but it sounds more fun the other way...)

The mystery! The drama! What is Becky hefting? Is SHE right? or is someone else talking? Why are there two of them.
You are really underselling this excerpt. This should be the blurb on the cover of the book.
PT hefted them both up? Hmmm Intruiging
When I look back on the book, Becky was a pretty awesome best friend. However, I still don't get the emotional detachment that she seemed to have at almost being mugged/raped in the alleyway. I would have liked more explanation as to why she reacted with such indifference and never spoke to Emma about it.
Well if you want to get quasi-psychological, Becky feels it's her job to protect Emma so she tries not to burden Emma with her problems. Which is also why Becky has never told Emma about all the abuse she took from her mother--Becky's mother not Emma's mother. Her way of coping then is to internalize her pain and also to eat a lot of junk food. In the same way Emma's way of coping is to bottle emotions up and focus on work. (And also to cry quite a bit apparently.) Really neither of them has very effective coping skills.
