Box Office Blitz Week 5 Results!

Apparently an R-rated original sci-fi movie can be #1 at the box office...if you release it in August.  Studios might want to take note of that before they release another "Prometheus" or "Pacific Rim" in the heart of the summer season.  Meanwhile my strategy of going with the kiddie movies has backfired big time.  Looks like I'm going to be in the running for the Sacko!

The top movies this weekend were:
Elysium $30.5M
We're the Millers $26.6M
Planes $22M

My crappy picks were:
  1. Planes $32M
  2. Elysium $30M
  3. We're the Millers $20M
I picked all three movies but in completely the wrong order so I only get 100 for each for 300 points.

Rusty picked:
Elysium - $35 mil
Planes - $27 mil
Percy Jackson 2 - $20 mil

That's 200 for Elysium, 100 for Planes and 0 for Percy Jackson for 300 total.

David Walton picked:
Planes $40 Mil
Elysium $36 Mil
We're the Millers $27 Mil

Which is 100 each for 300 total.

Briane Pagel picked:
1. Elysium: $35 mil.
2. Planes, $30 mil.
3. The Wolverine $25 mil.

That's 200 for Elysium and 100 for Planes for 300 total.  Wow you guys are making me feel better about my crappy picks!

Michael Offutt picked:
Percy Jackson $40 million
Elysium $30 million
Planes $25 million

He gets 100 for Elysium and 400 for Planes for 500 total.

Andrew Leon picked:
1. Elysium: $39m
2. Planes: $32m
3. We're the Millers: $24m

That's 200 for Elysium and 100 for the other two for 400 total.

Maurice Mitchell picked:
1. Elysium - $34 m
2. Planes - $24 m
3. Percy Jackson 2 - $18m

That's 200 for Elysium and 100 for Planes for 300 total.

And Chris Dilloway picked:
Planes @ $37
Elysium @ $35
Millers @ $28

That's 300 for him too.

So it seems my attempt to motivate you with negative reinforcement didn't really payoff.  Michael Offutt wins this week's stink-off and gets the 300 extra points.

The updated standings are:

The margin separating the top players is shrinking. This could turn into a real horse race.

Congrats Rusty. You know it just dawned on me I'm almost motivated to quit playing altogether just to keep from getting the sacko. Almost. We'll see who wins next round.
