Box Office Blitz: Week 2

It's week 2 of Box Office Blitz!  Shockingly I won Week 1.  But things can change quickly in this game, so let's see what happens this week.

The object of the game is to pick the 3 movies you think will top the box office this weekend and put them in proper order.  Remember to put in how much you think they'll make because that's the tiebreaker.  (If you put nothing in then you get credit for $0 in any tiebreaking scenario which is probably an automatic loss.)

Here's how the scoring works:

  • The winner of each round gets a 500 point bonus.
  • Each movie you guess that ends up in the top 3 gets you 50 points
  • You get another 50 point bonus for each one you get in the correct position (ie if your #1 pick is the actual #1 movie you get 50 extra points)
  • In case of a tie, the one who guesses closest to top grossing movie's take that weekend will be declared the winner
Now, from my local theater, here's what's playing this week.  (* indicates a new release)
  • Silver Linings Playbook
  • A Haunted House
  • Argo
  • Broken City*
  • Django Unchained
  • Gangster Squad
  • Jack Reacher
  • Les Miserables
  • Lincoln
  • Mama*
  • Parental Guidance
  • Rise of the Guradians
  • Skyfall
  • Texas Chainsaw 3D
  • The Hobbit
  • The Guilt Trip
  • The Impossible
  • The Last Stand*
  • Twilight:  Breaking Dawn 2
  • This is 40
  • Zero Dark Thirty

I'll go first with my picks:
  1. Mama $18M
  2. Zero Dark Thirty $15M
  3. Broken City $10M
My rationale is that horror/horror parodies have done well the last few weeks, so maybe that trend continues, especially if the numbers are low.  But as usual this is all me talking out of my ass at this point.

Now you make your guesses in the comments.  The scores will be tabulated on Sunday afternoon when the figures come in.  Good luck!

And Monday is Comic Captions featuring the My Favorite Martian Blogfest!

I'm just going to say that "Mama" is also getting a lot of buzz, because of the director and the fact that it explores ghost stories in a way that is unusual and original.
