This last idea I probably came up with in the mid-2000s. I don't really remember it all that well, but it was supposed to mix a literary marriage story with a vampire story. Because why not? It probably had a title, but I can't find the old notes so I'm just calling it Love After Death.
Like I said, I don't remember this all that well, but the idea was there was a couple who met and fell in love and all that good stuff. But over time they started to fall out of love for one reason or another. They were probably even discussing a divorce.
Then one night the guy is jumped in the dark and bitten by a vampire! He finds he can't tolerate sunlight without burning really bad so he has to stay indoors during the day and out of the light. And of course he has a craving for blood. A lot of the other stuff about garlic, crucifixes, turning into a bat, sparkling, and so on turn out to be BS.
For a while the guy and his wife are brought together by this crisis. He does an OK job of keeping the bloodlust under control. He starts out sucking blood from animals and then maybe some homeless guys and whatnot. But the need for blood eventually overwhelms him until he starts to kill normal people. One night he even goes after the wife, but stops from biting her.
She runs off into the night while the guy goes up on the roof to wait for the sunrise. He's actually been narrating this whole story while waiting to die.
Kind of depressing, but the end is one thing I remember about it. What do you think?

This sounds like a compelling and marketable story.
