Grumpy Bulldog Does America Day 19: Bulldogfall

To borrow from Bane in The Dark Knight Rises:  I wondered which would break first:  your spirit, or your body!  Like Batman it was the body, though it's not a really serious problem, just an annoying one.

I was eating a muffin of all things this morning and a tooth broke clean off into my muffin.  It was a tooth with a crown on it too.  It had been a little sore the last couple of days, so it wasn't a complete surprise, but still you don't expect a tooth to break apart when you're eating a muffin.

So now it's like 9am and I'm 2000 miles from my dentist.  I Googled dentists and eventually found one that was open on Saturday, though of course it was across the city from me.  The GPS said it was 15 miles but I probably drove like 20.

Of course the problem is that dentists say you can come in on Saturday but really as I've had happen before, if you need anything more than a tooth scraping you're out of luck.  Maybe if I said I was in terrible pain they would have done something, but since I'm not (for now) they said to come back to have the tooth remnants removed on Monday morning.  In the meantime don't eat anything too hard or sticky--or any muffins, right?

After that I got the car washed and then went to a nearby Starbucks for a little while to write and get my head right.  For lunch I went to a crappy Chinese buffet because I figured I could look for something relatively soft to eat with the other side of my mouth.  Basically chicken and shrimp as long as it's not battered works fine.

Anyway, I'm going to be in Portland now until the end of the month.  Monday they should in theory take the tooth out and from experience it takes about a week for the gum to heal over.  So I'll just transfer my flag to an Extended Stay motel where I can have a fridge to store Slim-Fast, pudding, and hummus and a microwave/stovetop where I can make soup.

And I'll have a lot of time to explore Portland.  Or just laze around the motel.  Here are some random pics from today, though first is one from last night.  I thought this was a funny neon fail:

It's supposed to be "America's Tire" but I don't know a tire shop for women might be a good idea.

Ouch! My dental stinks so I would probably have to pay mostly out of pocket for something like that.

I've heard that some people have used Fixadent to put the crown back on temporarily. Anyway...you would think once you have a crown you wouldn't have any issues with it. Dentists never seems to mention that they can come off or get decay under them while recommending the crown.

That sounds painful. Hope it gets fixed!

Portland is a great city. My brother lives there. People can be strange, but that's part of the coolness.

Sorry about the tooth Pat and it's too bad you'll be stuck. At least it's Portland though.

Sorry to hear about the tooth. Are you visiting with Chubby Chatterbox?

I lost a tooth in a banana, once, when I was a kid. It was weird.
I hate dentists. Just to say it.

You're like Charlie on "It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia" (The Boy got me into it; not a bad show.) In one episode he can just pull his teeth out, and does... a lot.

Portland doesn't look anywhere near as quirky as "Portlandia" made it seem. Where are the brunch lines?

Ugh. What an awful thing to happen. I have nightmares about losing my teeth. You're living my horrible fears.
